ABOUT MOXIE

Hey! It’s MOXIE MAVERICK (she/they). 👋🏻

I am a disabled trans music artist, writer, and healer living on occupied Turtle Island.

I create in honor of my past self, who always had a melody, rhythm, or idea floating around in her head. I grew up in a waspy-crunchy-fundamentalist-homeschooling-antievolution-antivaxxer-antiqueer-anti-basically-everything-except-organic-produce-and-taking-the-bible-out-of-context CULT (whew) and survived a severe spinal injury that nearly left me paralyzed as a teenager. I came out as a trans woman shortly after college and have dealt with housing insecurity for 4 of the past 6 years.

It was a long road, but last year, I made my teenage self’s dream come true: I released my debut album, ‘STAY’, albeit under somewhat trying circumstances. It’s an electronic spoken word tribute to the queer experience as I and my body know it.

I am a survivor. I am disabled and live with chronic pain and illness, but that has hardly left my life without meaning or purpose. If anything, my life has been a powerful demonstration (to me anyway) of the incredible ability we all have as humans to take our pain and turn it into gold or freedom or whatever we find most valuable.

If you didn’t catch it, I’m also an alchemist. I believe magic is real. It’s not just a belief; it is a mutual trust I continue to develop with life itself. This experience is at the core of what it means to be MOXIE MAVERICK. Without it, I would be dead.

Today, I’m remembering how to play. I can’t work a traditional job due to my body’s limitations, and I got reeaaaaally bored doing nothing but surviving. So I’m doing what I always wanted to do: heal (myself and others) through art.

I’d love for you to join me!

Warmly,

MOXIE MAVERICK
